The system of academic suspension has been revised, effective immediately. Previously, students with poor semester grades were placed on probation or suspension without considering their past performance. Now, the entire GPA is taken into account before discipline is administered. According to Frank Coleman, the revised catalog states:
- On 30 semester hours attempted or less, a student must have a cumulative GPA of not less than 1.50.
- On 31 semester hours or more attempted, a student must have a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.00.
- A 2.00 cumulative GPA is required for graduation.
Coleman believes the new system will benefit students as one poor academic semester will not appear on their transcript. Approximately 60-75 students are suspended each semester, but this number is expected to decrease with the new system.
