Keeping the energy crisis in mind, Paul Holt, chairman of the Snowball decoration committee, has selected “An Old Fashioned Christmas,” as the theme for this year’s dance.
Paul, a sophomore senator, has announced that the dance will be a formal affair on Dec. 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the ballroom of the Student Center. According to Paul, the committee plans to shy away from the extensive use of lighting featured at last year’s Snowball because of the energy crisis.
In a recent meeting, the senate voted to allocate the decoration committee $150 if it is needed to purchase additional decorations. The drama department will contribute some of its props used in plays to help carry out the theme.
This year the senate hopes to hire a semi-professional band. Tentative plans are to contact the African Music Machine which has published a number of recordings. Because of plans to have a semi-pro group, the senate has considered charging $5 or $6 per couple. The African Music Machine has appeared in Texarkana in the past at dances that charged as much as $6.50 per couple.
“We are not an organization out strictly to make a profit,” said Bill Ferguson, president of the senate.
