Assembly Talk By Ross Perot

“You have a unique built-in head start here in Texarkana,” Ross Perot commented Tuesday morning in the college auditorium.

Perot was speaking to a small section of the student body which had shown up for his address, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 18; he had been expected to talk to the students, but had failed to appear due to bad weather. At that time he had consented to return on another date.

Perot told the group he has a deep love for this town, college, and school system. “I was very advantaged to grow up in a town the size of Texarkana,” he said. “In a metropolitan area such as Dallas, one loses his individuality.”

“A person living in Dallas,” he explained, “can travel to and from work or school and never see a cross section of society. They would never see another person of higher or lower social or economic status.”

“Your insight is much deeper coming from a town such as this. Here you see all parts of the town and you see all segments of life.”
