Q. Why are many students afraid of college administrators and faculty?
A. The fear that some students have for administrators usually begins in high school. Pre-college students hear many stories about college and college life long before they arrive on campus. These tales vary from the wonderful sex life to the mean old professors. It is the mean old professors that almost always hang in the mind of the college novice, thus causing fears that don’t just walk away by themselves. The best remedy I know is for a student to use the office hours of the professor that frightens him most and get to know him on a personal basis.
Q. What is there to do at Texarkana College?
A. What a student does at school is what he likes best. If you can’t find anything to do, there is always studying. Aside from studying, an interested student can apply for some campus clubs or play intramural sports. When I first came to Texarkana College I joined the debate team. I had no idea such a team existed until I searched for it. If a student wishes to belong to an organization and doesn’t know the procedure, he might contact one of the counselors or a club president. — Marvin Abney
