Each summer there are approximately 12,000 summer jobs available with the Federal Government, according to the U. S. Civil Service Commission.
Jobopportunities in career-related sub-professional positions, dept and carrier jobs with the Postal Service, and clerical jobs are offered.
The Commission urges students who are interested in these jobs to apply for one of the first two summer employment examinations (Jan. 6 and Feb. 10) or apply on the basis of their grade point average by Jan. 17, 1973 in order to receive maximum consideration.
To apply by GPA a student must have at least a 3.5 average which equals a 85.5 score on the test. The examination will last 2 hours and will measure vocabulary, reading comprehension, abstract reasoning, and table and chart interpretation.
The commission pointed out that opportunities for placement in a job are greatest with early application because many agencies begin making selections after the first test. More details on the federal summer employment may be picked up in the counselor’s office.
