Challenge examinations for nursing courses will be given at the end of this semester at various times, dates, and places. LVN’s and transfer students from other nursing programs with extensive clinical experience in the subject being tested are eligible. These persons may take the examination only when they have completed the appropriate admission requirements and have either completed the prerequisite courses or are presently enrolled in them.
The examination process includes pretest advisement with the appropriate faculty, written instructions, and a course syllabus. Applications must be obtained from the counselor’s office. Fees must be paid before pretest advisement occurs and is not refundable.
The examination itself consists of a series of written objective tests, a mathematical-dosage calculation test (in 181 only), and demonstration of proficiency in various basic nursing skills. Component is given only after having passed the written test series.
Those who successfully complete the challenge examination must enroll at the first opportunity there is an opening in the subsequent course in order to receive the credits. Passing students may be required to attend discussion sessions for learning nursing process, nursing care planning, etc., in preparation to start the next course.

Costs of the examinations are $5.00 per credit hour for the clinical testing (4-5 hours). The clinical fee is refundable if the student is unsuccessful with the written tests.
