End of Semester Music Concert Features Instrumental Ensemble

MUSICIANS PRESENT ENSEMBLE RECITAL — Debbie Burgess, Gene Hoffman, and Debbie Cooley present four movements from “Sonata for Three Flutes” during the music department’s ensemble recital last Tuesday. An audience of about fifty people attended the recital. The music department plans to present two more recitals before the conclusion of the semester.

The music department presented a 45 minute instrumental ensemble concert last Tuesday in the college auditorium.

The audience, which numbered about 50 persons, was seated on stage for the performance and was treated with five musical scores.

“Prayer”, from “Rienzi”, by Wagner, was the first arrangement presented. Students participating were Tim Higginbotham, trumpet; Lee McEwen, trumpet; Mona Harris, horn; John Combs, trombone; Walton Gamble, baritone; and Freddy Gamble, tuba.

Following were four movements from Boismortier’s “Sonata for Three Flutes” performed by Debbie Burgess, Gene Hoffman, and Debbie Cooley.

Next, Frankgiser’s “Song of the Orchid” entertained the audience. Gary Davidson, alto saxophone; Phyllis Mitchell, alto saxophone; John Tate, tenor saxophone; and Dwayne Peace, baritone saxophone, presented this selection. Another Frankgiser number was performed entitled “Parthis No. 2”. Students playing were Gene Hoffman, flute; Margaret Gallagher, clarinet; Robbie Walker, clarinet; Mona Harris, horn; Frank Woods, horn; and instructor Barry Mitchell, horn.

The final selection performed was made up of Tim Higginbotham, trumpet; Lee McEwen, trumpet; John Wyninegar, horn; Jed Dillingham, trombone; Jim Owens, baritone, and Freddy Gamble, tuba. Their selection was the I Allegro movement from Dietz’s “Modern Moods”.

The music department will present two recitals before the conclusion of the semester. Tuesday, the ensembles will perform in the auditorium at 11 a.m. Thursday, voice and choir students will present a recital at 11:15 a.m. in the student center.
