Intramurals tip off into basketball

Intramural basketball got its season start Tuesday with a pair of practice games in the gymnasium. The program is scheduled to continue for seven and one-half weeks.

Wayne Williams, physical education instructor, is in charge of the program. He said that six teams with a maximum of 10 players have entered the competition.

The roundballers will play only one game per activity period, Williams said, adding that a game will consist of two 20-minute halves.

Paul Smith and Kirk Zachery will be the officials for the contests, he said. “Both these students have a good understanding of the rules and I think they will make fine officials,” Williams said.

The coach said that, out of the 10 players, only five are allowed to play at one time. He said that the deadline for entering teams has already passed and no additional teams will be added to the round-robin schedule.

The games are played in the college gym every Tuesday and Thursday during activity period. Any spectators are welcome, said Williams.
