Joint Community, College Production Of Opera Scheduled Nov. 30 – Dec. 1

Texarkana Community College is living up to its name. Through a joint effort of the Texarkana College and the Texarkana Community, the opera “Hansel and Gretel” will spring to life Nov. 30 – Dec. 1.

Ronnie J, Myers, former TC student, will perform the role of Peter, the father. Myers has appeared in several past T CC musical productions, including “The Marriage of Figaro” and “How to Succeed in Business.” The only male member of the cast, Myers has been out of Texarkana College for two years. Recently employed by Cosmaders Incorporated, he is a graduate of TCC.

Bill Bennett of Waldo, Ark. will play the part of the Witch. A teacher at St. James Day School, Mr. Bennett has a background of pmfic directing, having lead choirs and musical productions for over 20 years.

Suzanne Everett, sophomore, majoring in music, will sing the role of Hansel. Other cast members include Mrs. Pat Gray of Atlanta as the Stepmother, and Miss Marla Schmidt as the Sandman. They are guest artists in Hansel and Gretel.

The opera will have the Junior Choir of the First Baptist Church form the chorus. They will be the Gingerbread Children in the last scene. Mrs. Sue McCrossin, music instructor, will direct the opera, and Mrs. Nancy Kreybich, speech-drama instructor, will be technical advisor.
