LETTER EVOKES CONTROVERSY ON CAMPUS

By Burleson Philips

Quite a bit of controversy was focussed on last week’s letter to the editor from Alan Davila.

The second paragraph showed the least respect for the black race. To be branded as “darkies” is both deadly and humiliating to the black man’s peaceful existence in America.

The issue was debated in an unorganized spontaneous meeting by approximately thirty black students and officials of the college.

According to Joe Whitaker, there are still many blacks that are not satisfied with the action (an apology by the person that wrote the letter) taken toward this incident. The blacks feel they are being treated as second-class citizens.

Joe also states, “This shall long linger in the minds of the black TC student body, but there is no recourse of action.”
