Letters To The Editor

On holidays when all the former Texarkana students that attend the major universities come home one of their main pastimes is seeing old friends.

The first question they usually ask is, “Hey, where are you going to school now?” The usual reply is, “Well, what do you think? I’m still out here at Mickey Mouse University.”

There are not many students at TC who can say that they have never said this. I have said the same thing myself many times, especially my first semester at TC.

Then suddenly I changed my whole attitude toward TC especially when I saw my friends from high school come home from universities to attend TC the next semester.

Now that I have been here for three semesters I am glad that I made the choice to stay. I have a better grade point average than I would if I had gone off to college and I have matured in my thinking so that I think of college in terms of education, not “fun.”

I, like most students at TC, have received special attention from teachers here that I would never receive at a university.

I have met many great students and teachers who have made my three semesters at TC wonderful.

When I won the Miss TC Pageant and the Arkansas pageant I had the opportunity to work with a man here on campus who helped me as a student and also in the business world. If I had been at a larger university I am sure that the Dean of Students there would not have had the time to help me with things that were not directly connected with the school.

I would like to thank all of the teachers that helped me make up work and tests that I missed when I was gone to the Miss USA Pageant.

A special thanks to Dean Bill Hughes who I could always depend on for help and encouragement.

I would also like to thank everyone who helped on this years Miss TC Pageant and also all of the students that make TC exactly what it is — a friendly college.

I hope that everyone who has attended TC and those who plan to attend will take a second look at TC and realize what it really is, a wonderful college and a place to get your feet on the ground before you do leave.
