Marla White Wins $800 Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP WINNER — F. H. Martin awards an $800 scholarship to Marla White for winning last year’s Environmental Essay Writing Contest in Arkansas. Her plans are to become an environmental biologist.

Marla White, a student at TC, was awarded a scholarship for winning the 1972 Environmental Essay Writing Contest in Arkansas.

She wrote the essay while she was a senior student at Cale High School. Marla is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reid C. White, of Cale, Ark.

The $800 scholarship, which was given by the Advisory Council for Environmental Education and which was endorsed by the Department of Education, was presented to Marla by F. H. Martin, a specialist in the field of environment and Conservation with the Department of Education.

Arkansas Power and Light Co., the Aluminum Co. of America, and other companies sponsored the award. The essay for which Miss White won the award was entitled, “Environmental Awareness, My Suggestions for Improving Environment in My Community.” Marla’s future plans are to become an environmental biologist.
