There was a time in our younger days when Christmas was a visit from Santa Claus, who would come in the middle of the cold night. No matter how long you waited, how much you peeked out the window, or how often you used the excuse of going to the bathroom, you would never see him. But yet, the following morning, he has come, as the piece of pie you left him is gone and all the things you asked for are under the tree.
It was a magical time then. Nativity scenes, colored lights, drawing window decorations were all symbols of a glorious and mystical period of the year. Yet, somewhere behind it all, was the birth in a stable of a child named Jesus. Although we tried, we never really understood the true meaning of Christmas.
We have grown up now, and have learned all the secrets that every boy and girl is destined to learn. Yet, you shouldn’t be ashamed to still scan the skies on Christmas Eve for a glimpse of Santa and his reindeer. But don’t expect to see him. Instead, look for him in the faces of people around you. Then, you will realize where Santa was all along.
What was born in the stable nearly 2000 years ago was not only the birth of Jesus, but the birth of hope for mankind. As long as man inhabits the earth, that hope, along with Santa and the whole meaning of Christmas, will never diminish.
