Merry Christmas To All

As the Christmas spirit grows more and more apparent, most Americans will spend much of their annual “Christmas savings” on gifts, decorations, trees, party favors, elegant foods and new clothes.

Most merchants began their Christmas advertising the day after Thanksgiving, or a full month in advance. The Christmas season brings to many retail and wholesale businesses their long-awaited venture into a sudden, booming business when nearly everything in their stores are either sold or shoplifted.

Christmas is a time of joy among Christians throughout the world. It was a season for jubilant celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ for most Americans a few years back, but now the “season to be jolly” has almost turned into utter chaos.

Wreckless driving, heavy crime rates, the madness of the average Christmas shoppers, and worst of all, the increasing number of highway deaths have all but completely hidden our “gay appearal” and the birth of the Christ Child surprisingly is not even remembered or thought about in many homes.

Christmas has been a time for families to be together, to give and receive gifts of love, rather than out of necessity. It is a shame that in this day and age, when Santa Claus has become every department store in the nation, that young children may not acquire the true meaning and spirit of Christmas to fill their hearts and minds with love for their fellow man and the act of giving.

But with our country in a frenzy every Christmas it makes one wonder if “Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward Men” will ever exist — even during the Yuletide season.
