Art Show At Smith’s
Art students now have a display of their work on the fourth floor of Smith’s, downtown. There are several different kinds of paintings and other art work being presented. The works will be on the show until Dec. 8 and everyone is invited to come and view the exhibit.
Rodeo Club Dance
The fall annual Rodeo Club Dance was held Saturday, Nov. 24, at the American Legion Hall.
According to Mrs. Gene Livingston, sponsor of the club, the dance was a financial success. “Red Goodman and the Country Boys did an excellent job,” she said.
The money raised from the dance will go into the Rodeo Club Scholarship Fund.
Emerald Ball Helpers
Seven Texarkana College girls will play an important part in the up-coming Emerald Ball. The seven will be dressed in red satin costumes trimmed in silver tinsel. The costumes were a gift of KTAL-TV.
The seven girls, members of Leslie K. Turbe Jan Burchfield, Carole Castle, Camille Parker, Dottie Mathews, Patti Pafford, Judy McVay, and Emily Stewart.
The Emerald Ball is the largest single annual charity event in Texarkana. The funds will go to the Texarkana Retardation Center.
Flea Market Today
Everything from junk to treasure will be sold at the Flea Market which will end today.
Many clubs and departments will be participating in the flea market. Art students will sell paintings, pictures will be sold from the newspapers, YD’s will sell everything, and Blue Jackets will sell baked goodies.
French Club Party
Le Cercle Francais held a French Bingo party for its November meeting. “Les Elephants Blancs” (white elephants) were given as prizes. After winning three games, Sandra Overstreet became the French director of the game.
In the business meeting, Farley Ward, president appointed Carol Rogers, Carolyn Drake, and Deborah Landry to take charge of the French bookstall at the all college Flea Market held today. He also urged members to pay their dues before December 15 in order to send payment to Alliance Francaise, the national organization. It was announced that Le Cercle Francaise donates French books to the library yearly through the services of the Alliance.
A Christmas party is planned for the December meeting.
CEC Registration
Registration for courses in the Career Education Center began Monday and will be concluded today. Classes for the next quarter will begin on Dec. 3.
According to CEC Counsel or Ronald Bright, programs offered will include Auto Mechanics, Auto Body Work, Welding, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electronics, Office Occupation, and Child Care Aide. Tuition is $75 per quarter.
Night classes will also be gin in Welding, Electronics, Auto Mechanics, and Office Occupations. Classes will meet three nights a week for five hours each. Tuition will be $37.50 a quarter for night classes.
Blue Jackets Initiated
Bobbie Hooper, Sally Cotton, Bridget Rowe, and Jackie Burns were informally initiated into the Blue Jacket organization last weekend in Shreveport. After dining at Morrison’s, the girls went on a shopping spree.
The Blue Jackets are still working on the Student Cookbook. “Any student or faculty member who is interested is urged to turn in a recipe to any member of the Blue Jackets,” said Ms. Ruth Fomby, sponsor. “The book should be ready to be sold by the first of the year.” Marla White is in charge of compiling the cookbook and Valerie Long will do the illustrations.
