An alive, bright, and receptive audience met the TC stage band last week during their concert at Hooks High.
A mood of extreme informality was set up at the beginning of the concert when Jerry Lovelady, director of the band which graduated from Hooks High School, and Ronny Bright, Goldsmith, Glenn Kennedy, Jimmy Laney, Jerry Stevens, and Boyd Smith, all Hooks natives, were warmly received by the classmates.
The audience was especially responsive to songs written by the group, “Every Day Last Sunday,” “Chicago,” (“Free,” “Make Me Smile,” and “25 or 6 to 4”).
Doug Duke, dubbed as “TC’s Tom Jones” by Lovelady, sang a solo line “Shake,” to which the audience whistled and clapped. This was the first of many solos that the band did.
The band also mixed in a number of favorites from the charts and then turned to jazz classics like “Free.” The band will play in Hooks concert again soon.
