Registered Nurses Hold Mental Health Workshop on Campus

Registered nurses from the Texarkana area attended a two-day Mental Health Workshop on Nov. 29 – 30 on the TC campus. This workshop that took place in October was attended by 66 area registered nurses. A grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to the Arkansas League of Nurses made the program possible.

Dr. Jeanette Grosicki, director of education of the Regional Medical Program, spoke on “Personality Growth and Development” and on the “Dying Patient.”

According to Mrs. Taylor, nursing supervisor at St. Michael Hospital, only favorable comments have been voiced by the nurses.

Mrs. Taylor, quoting from Hildegard Peplau, R.N., Ed.D., said, “Mental illness is really a nonsense term, for the mind cannot be sick apart from the body. The mind is not an organ; it is a function of the acting brain and the whole person.”
