Throughout the campaign for the White House, the economy of the nation was a key issue. Unemployment was also tied into this. Ford told us unemployment would be down to 7 per cent by the end of the year. The figures for October show unemployment at 7.8 per cent.
Carter made campaign promises of higher employment and a stronger economy. He proposes to “create” jobs. Increasing the Federal payroll would only raise taxes and spur a higher rate of inflation.
Many people don’t just want a job; they want work.
Liz Ray had a job but she didn’t have work. Carter should concentrate on creating work . . . not jobs.
