Stage Band Showing Fine Concert Style

The TC stage band traveled to the Queen City and Atlanta high schools Wednesday where it presented two special assemblies for the schools. The band, under the direction of Jerry Loveall, plays many new arrangements this year such as “Saturday in the Park,” “Big Orange,” “Scorpio,” and the old standard “Moonglow,” featuring Libby Hart on clarinet and vocal solo.

When completely assembled, the band’s rhythm section consists of nearly a ton of electronic amplifiers, instruments, drums, P.A. systems, and all accessories. At times, Loveall complains about the rhythm section being too loud, but with nearly 1200 watts of amplified power, and Mike Gilliam and Jim Covert on the “tubs,” one can understand his complaints.

Last week, the band presented a similar concert in Hooks where it left the audience screaming for more after the band’s final number.

The band is planning to enter the Stephen F. Austin Jazz Ensemble contest on the SFA campus Jan. 27.
