Teacher Evaluation System Discussed at PTK Meeting

The last regular PTK meeting featured a panel discussion by five faculty members on the teacher-evaluation system, with Ricky Moore presiding. Faculty members agreed that student evaluations are essential for improvement but questioned aspects such as the frequency of evaluations, the type of questions asked, and students’ attitudes. Jerry Wright, a science instructor, noted that AT Biology was restructured based on student comments. Dr. Bill Carlisle, an English instructor, felt that most questions were about popularity. Lester Meredith, from the social sciences division, questioned the purpose of evaluations. Paul McFerran, another science instructor, discussed the popularity question and his own interest in the subject. Stewart Angel from the mathematics department found written comments most beneficial. Jane Bouterse and Jimmy Hawkins also posed questions, indicating a strong faculty interest in self-improvement.
