Texas Universe Pageant Next Stop For Winner of Miss TC Pageant

MISS TC ’73 — These three smiling faces, belonging to perhaps the most beautiful girls on campus, were caught by the camera Saturday night at the Miss T Universe Pageant. They are first runner-up Jeanne Snodgrass, the new Miss TC Christal Phiffer, and second runner-up Belinda Morse. Christal will represent the college at the Miss Texas Universe contest, which will be in San Antonio in the spring.

Number 13 proved to be the lucky number for Christal Phiffer, sophomore major, as she was named the new Miss Texarkana College at the annual beauty pageant Saturday night. Christal is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phiffer. She plans to go into modeling or advertising, and hopes to one day have her own dance studio. While Christal was in high school, she won the title of Miss Beauty Walk, the appearance award in the Junior Miss Pageant, and was a top model in SEVENTEEN magazine.

Jeanne Snodgrass, first runner-up in the contest, is the daughter of Frank and Marie Snodgrass. She is a sophomore majoring in history. During her high school days, she was vice president of Allied Youth; “Trecea” the Texas Honor Society, and she was maid in the homecoming court. In the future she hopes to be a lawyer or a teacher.

The second runner-up was Belinda Morse. She is the daughter of Mrs. Ethel Morse, and is a sophomore majoring in accounting. She is a DAR good citizen, and was treasurer of her senior class, homecoming queen, cheerleader, and Miss Liberty-Eyla. She hopes one day to be a buyer for women’s fashions.

Other finalists were Carla Jones, a sophomore secretarial major, and Janice Earle, freshman data processing major.

Bob Evans, former Master of Ceremonies of the Miss American Pageant, served as emcee for the pageant. Evans sang and provided humor while the girls changed their costumes. Other entertainers were Dennis Barker and pianist Jones Kidd, a former Miss Texarkana, Barry Mitchell, music instructor at TC, who accompanied each singer on the piano. Providing the winner was Randy Moore, president of the student senate. The Bill Highet designed trophy donated by Mr. and Mrs. Highet will go into the possession of the winner for the next year.

The girls were judged in three areas of competition; personality, swim suit, and evening gown. Serving as judges were Kenneth J. Wallace, Commerce, Texas; Charlie Sylvester Peacock, Blackorville, Arkansas; Dr. Bill Mosley, Paris Junior College, and Revier Tefertile, president of Student Congress and the show was next council president. Christal will represent Texarkana College in the Miss Texas Universe pageant in San Antonio this spring.
