A former state employee who once worked as a migrant farm worker formally announced his intentions to run for Governor of the State of Texas last week at a news conference held in Austin. Ricardo Lopez, 31, said he will run for governor as an independent candidate. Lopez feels Texas’ three largest political parties have failed to answer Texas’ problems.

Lopez, who resigned from his job with the Texas Department of Community Affairs, said he has been thinking about running for governor for about two years. He said he finally decided to quit his job and enter politics because of frustration with the State’s bureaucracy.
