Lucasta Beck and Gloria Mugno, two of the nursing department instructors, attended the first annual Nurse Educator Conference in Chicago this summer.
The conference sessions were scheduled around presentations by noted speakers and seminars. Mrs. Beck and Mrs. Mugno attended general sessions, workshops, and more intimate group discussions on various topics relating to nursing education.
Among the topics discussed at these sessions were ways to make instructional materials more influential in nursing education; an examination of state standards for nursing schools; as well as methods to inspire students to continue their education after graduation.
Mrs. Beck reported that one of the most interesting aspects of the conference was a presentation by Dr. John E. deBuren III, of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Education concerning “Innovative Approaches to Nursing Education.” Dr. deBuren provided a forum for exchange on innovative professional ideas related to the theme from around the dynamics of health care delivery systems at this time period. The professor’s vision stressed “the need for effective communication among all levels of nursing education concerning a variety of educational concerns arising from current trends within nursing education.”
