Attending a community college has many apparent advantages. One problem plaguing administration and student senate members, however, is trying to keep commuters here after classes. Just what do the students want?
Cindy Ayres believes sports are the answer. Controlled ping-pong, tennis, and badminton tournaments will keep the people here, she says. Sinda Ward would like to have a class in arts and crafts, especially in ceramics.
Joy Brewer wants more spectator sports. She would like to see the Globetrotters play the faculty. Joy also thinks that TCC needs sororities and fraternities that function like the larger university clubs. Outdoor symphonies and free movies would also lend a “touch of class”. “A class in car repairs wouldn’t be a bad idea,” she added.
Cathy Ryan suggests that dorms be set up. “You can always go home on the weekends. It would be good for those people who drive an hour and a half to school every day.”
Holly Hempin, Cindy Fleet, and Art Nottingham don’t think the response will be very big.
“Too many people work,” says Art. “There isn’t enough time.”
