His name is William Taft Wilson, but his teammates and opposition call him “Tank”. The six foot, 205 pound TCC student doubles as linebacker for the Texarkana Phantoms, and his abilities have been an important factor in several of the Phantoms numerous victories this year.
Many may remember Wilson as captain of the Arkansas High football team in 1972. After he finished high school, Wilson said he joined the U.S. Navy and played for the Navy “Seahawks”, based in Yokosuka, Japan. While playing in the service, he was named to the All-Navy football team.
His last game in the Navy was played in the Phillipines, and this is where he picked up the nickname “Tank”.
Wilson played both offense and defensive positions for the Bullhogs in the Bulldog Bowl last year and this year. His talents couldn’t stop the Hogs from losing, but they were a contributing factor in bringing the team within striking distance of the Texas Bullhorns.
“Tank” joined the Phantoms last year when they were organized, and because of his efforts and abilities, William Taft Wilson has surely been an asset to the Phantoms, to TCC, and to the Texarkana Community.
