A Time to Prepare

All set for the holidays? Well, chances are you will be by Friday, December 18. Attending gala parties, greeting old friends, spending money for gifts, and partaking of Christmas Cheer are pleasant activities of the Yuletide Season.

Yes sir, it’s a fairly snug little world you’re living in, isn’t it? That is, unless you happen to glance at a fair sampling of headlines in a current news magazine or newspaper. Or think back over the newsworthy events of 1964.

Nineteen sixty-four was a year of fateful events. Among them were Red China’s birth as a nuclear power and the Civil Rights Bill’s passage. The mysterious shakeup of top Russian officials and the United States and British elections this fall created world-wide interest. Situations in South Vietnam and the Congo are serious matters under consideration by world leaders now.

Who will replace our current leaders and reliable followers when our generation assumes adult responsibilities? Young people need to prepare for the future. You have taken the initial step by pursuing a higher education.

We will need all the knowledge and understanding we can absorb to live in this world of ours.
