Baptist Student Union Active on Campus

by Wayne Hopkins

The Baptist Student Union is an organization of Baptist students on the campus designed to meet the total spiritual needs of the individual college student. Although it is sponsored by Baptists, all students are welcome, regardless of their religious affiliation.

BSU meets every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Oaklawn Baptist Church.

The officers elected for this year are: Dora Burden, President; Wayne Hopkins, First Vice-President; Linda Brown, Second Vice-President; Brosie Grigson, Third Vice-President; Kathryn Bizzell, Secretary-Treasurer; Bobby Tollett, Music Director; Shirley Nix, Publicity Director; Jackie Morgan, Pianist; Mr. Allen Numnad and Mr. John Redman, faculty sponsors; and the Rev. R. J. Simpson and Rev. Gregor, pastor advisers.

A pastor of an area church brings the devotional each week. Among those speaking have been the Reverend Morrison, the Reverend Tate, the Reverend Bannett, the Reverend Burleson, the Reverend Mears, the Reverend Simpson.

The BSU is trying to develop greater interest and enthusiasm in its work so the groups from the organization can go into the area churches and present programs emphasizing BSU. The BSU needs every interested student in every weekly meeting. Its invitation is open to all.

The BSU takes an active interest in the college. It tries to help, in any way, in directing students the right way. The BSU has been represented at all general assemblies. It also had representation at nearly all the football games. The BSU entered a car in the homecoming parade with its officers riding.

Therefore, the Baptist Student Union has as its constant aim, giving the students religious fellowship along with their college education.
