Board OK’s Science Complex

PROSPECTIVE SCIENCE COMPLEX – This picture shows the proposed science complex of four buildings to be constructed near the corner of Tucker and Coolidge streets. The structure on the upper right side of the complex is the proposed biology building, construction of which is to begin immediately. These two are to be ready for use next September. The one for engineering and physics shown in lower left, and for nursing, lower right, will follow later.

Construction of a new biology building on the TC campus will begin immediately, according to an announcement by the college Board of Regents November 10.

The biology building will be the first of a science complex consisting of four buildings which will be erected near the corner of Tucker Street and Coolidge Street. (See picture on this page.) The second of the four buildings will be for chemistry, and these first two are expected to be ready for occupancy at the beginning of the fall semester next year. Later a third building to be used for physics and data processing classes will be constructed, and then a fourth one will be for nursing, according to President J. W. Cady.

Each of the four buildings will face in a different direction, and a large parking area is to be laid out adjoining Coolidge Street.

The biology building will be constructed by Dixie Builders, Inc., low bidder on the project at $78,000.

At present biology, chemistry, physics, and data processing classes and laboratories are located in the administration building, along with the library, language laboratories, business administration classes, and the Evening College. Construction of the science complex will do much to relieve the crowded situation at Texarkana College and to take care of the expected increase in enrollment during the next few years.
