The William Porcas Akin Chapter of Texarkana College Student Teachers held its first meeting of the year, Tuesday, October 31. Patsy Bowerman, president, welcomed the new members to the teacher’s pledge.
Next, a former student, now Bill Young, introduced Arthur Burruss of Texarkana, who gave a talk on “The Teaching Profession.” Mr. Burruss is a student. Burruss illustrated these ideas in terms of students as the development of compassion and the educated person. Also, he brought out the fact that each teacher of today is a student. A teacher tries to think for a think for himself.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a social of hot cider was held after which refreshments were served.
The club was organized to encourage college students to study to be teachers. The chapter has 24 members and is sponsored by Mrs. Goldy Mark, a member of the English Department at Texarkana College.
