December means carols and special music and the Texarkana Choir, directed by Mr. Murry Alewine, is doing its share of spreading the Christmas cheer.
Yesterday the 28-member group taped some Christmas arrangements and carols for viewing on KTAL Channel 6 during the holidays.
Earlier this week the blazer-clad singers performed at First Methodist Church in Texarkana, Ark., for the Wednesday Music Study Club. Tuesday night the annual McLarty-Ford Christmas program for its employees featured the local singers.
Borden Milk Company employees partying at National Guard Armory, Sunday, and the Texas Pioneer Association, meeting at the Grim Hotel last Saturday night, also heard Mr. Alewine’s group perform.
Accompanied on the piano by Janice Jones, the group sang “Silver Bells,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Sleigh Bells,” “Hodie Christus Natus Est,” and a medley of carols.
A 17th century special number, “A Christmas Hymn,” featured an echo choir composed of Melvin Hawkins, bass, Bruce Douglas, tenor, Caroline Craw, alto, and Peggy Surratt, soprano.
