Cpl. George Green, from the local Marine Reserve center, was the guest speaker at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Circle K, Tuesday, December 7 at Bryce’s.
Cpl. Green presented a film entitled “A War Within a War,” about the Marines’ actions in Viet Nam during the last year. The film relates the Marines’ efforts to obtain the friendship and allegiance of the Vietnamese people. Originally the Marines were sent to occupy three bases in Viet Nam. These bases were then re-infiltrated by the Viet Cong. Therefore, it was the added job of the Marines to win the confidence of the people over the propaganda of the Communist Chinese. In this way, food, medical care, and help provided by the United States and the Marines play as important a part in fighting the war in Viet Nam as artillery.
During the business meeting, the various projects planned by Circle K were discussed. All the members are having their blood typed for the files of the local blood bank. Also, the group discussed helping the Goodfellows in their annual Christmas drive to collect food, clothing, and toys for needy families in Texarkana.
