The Bulldogs, in taking the game Saturday night from the Henderson County Cardinals, won the Texas Junior College Football Federation conference championship, the first conference championship for the TC squad since 1959. The score was 18–13.
The championship may mean a bowl bid for the Bulldogs. As The Kernel goes to press, Coaches Bobby Fox and Tom Collins are attending a meeting in Dallas trying to determine the possibilities of a bowl berth for their Canines. The conference championship is the first one for Coach Fox.
Played in shivery 25-degree weather, the Bulldogs were out front during every quarter. The score was 6–0 at halftime, and the Canines took an 18–0 lead with two more touchdowns in the third quarter.
The most spectacular plays of the game were a 61-yard run by TC’s Houston in the third quarter, and a touchdown pass caught by the Cardinal’s Rick Loyd in the fourth. Each player on each team played bang-up ball, each team seemed determined to win, and the only chilly thing about the game was the weather.
The Bulldogs finished the year with a 5-1-1 conference record, and a 7-3-1 season record.
