Dr. Whaley Dedicates New Nursing Building

“This building is dedicated to service and to science,” said Dr. Storm Whaley, of the University of Arkansas Health Service, in ceremonies Oct. 25 for the formal dedication of the debt-free William Buchanan Nursing Building.

“It is dedicated to knowing that which is known is not enough,” the Arkansas guest speaker stressed as he explained to the platform guests, student nurses, and visitors gathered on the sunny October afternoon that today’s knowledge is obsolete tomorrow.

“This building provides Texarkana area students with opportunities to be equipped for science and its future demands.”

On hand for the hour long outdoor ceremony were members of the Buchanan Foundation, a representative from the Texas Education Agency, the TC Board of Regents and local guests.

Prior to Dr. Whaley’s address, Dr. William R. Patterson presented a building plaque to Mr. William G. Fuller, accepting for the Buchanan Foundation, and expressed the College’s appreciation for their gift.

The Buchanan Foundation and Texas Education Agency provided funds to construct the Nursing Building.

Mr. Truman Isabel, representative for the T.E.A., accepted the thanks for the Agency and paid tribute to the nursing profession in his general remarks.

Dr. J. W. Cady, president of the College, presided over ceremonies held in front of the new building.

Some 200 persons were present.

Professional and vocational nursing students were attired in their uniforms and served as hostesses.

A tour and reception followed the benediction pronounced by Dr. T. H. Wilbanks, of the Board of Regents.
