In the first Powder Puff football game, the freshman girls from Texarkana College came from behind in the last quarter to down the sophomores 24-20 last Friday night at Grim Stadium.
The game was sponsored by the Texarkana Jaycees and the Marine Corps Reserve to collect toys for underprivileged children.
The freshmen scored first on an 80 yard dash by Sandy Hobbs in the first quarter. The sophomores came back in the second period with a scoring pass from Barbara Shoats to Dana Massey to knot the score at 6-6.
Both teams scored again in the second quarter, and when neither converted, the score remained deadlocked at 12-12 at the half.
Susie Moss put the frosh ahead in the third quarter, dashing into the end zone after receiving a pass on a play that covered 47 yards. Again the try for the extra point was unsuccessful. The sophomores came back again when Cheryl Citty took a pass for a touchdown, and Gwen Vahle ran the extra point to put the sophs ahead 20-18.
In the final quarter Miss Moss broke loose on a 46-yard scoring run to put the frosh ahead for keep by a 24-20 count.
The teams were coached by Mr. Bobby Fox and Mr. Wayne Williams of the College physical education department.
Approximately 200 fans turned out for the game, and their response indicated that they enjoyed themselves tremendously.
