Miss Rita Loyd, daughter of Mrs. Virginia Loyd, 2631 North Robinson Road, has been named one of the five semi-finalists in the Miss Bulldog Beauty Contest at Texarkana College, replacing one of the original five who has dropped out of school.
Miss Loyd, a sophomore, finished sixth in the contest held October 25, in an extremely close race requiring four recounts.
Sponsored by the TC student newspaper, the Kennel, Miss Loyd finished second in the senate contest last year. A graduate of Liberty-Eylau high school, she was a freshman class favorite last year.
Other semi-finalists in the contest are: Miss Betty Posey, Miss Connie Cox, Miss Patsy Griffith, and Miss Lola Simmons.
Photographs of the five semi-finalists will be sent to a celebrity, as yet unannounced, for final judging. The winner will be announced in May.
Last year’s fifth winner, Miss Jan Blain, formerly of Hooks, Texas, now living in Chattanooga, Tenn., was selected by Floyd Crammer, well-known popular pianist.
Miss Loyd replaces Miss Cynthia Jones, who dropped out of school early this month for “personal reasons.”
