Five semi-finalists in the Miss Bulldog Beauty Pageant were selected Tuesday morning at Texarkana College Auditorium by the student body.
The young ladies were chosen from 23 campus club contestants on the basis of poise and beauty.
Selected were Miss Suzanne Blackwell, Miss Jan Blair, Miss Patsy Copeland, Miss Rita Loyd and Miss Janice Sanders.
The semi-finalists’ photographs will be sent to a nationally known celebrity who will select the winner. The finalist and the runners-up will be announced in the 1966 Bulldog.
Miss Blackwell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Blackwell of Texarkana and is a member of the Blue Jackets, Phi Theta Kappa, Young Democrats and French Club. She is a 1964 graduate of Texas High School.
Miss Jan Blair, who is the daughter of Capt. and Mrs. Eugene F. Blair, is a freshman at Texarkana College and is in the College Choir. She graduated from Hooks High School in 1965.
Miss Copeland is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Copeland of Texarkana, Texas, and is a sophomore. She is active in Samothrace, English Club and YWCA as an advisor. Miss Copeland is a 1964 graduate of Texas High School.
Miss Rita Loyd is a 1965 graduate of Liberty-Eylau High School and is the daughter of Mrs. Virginia Loyd of Texarkana. She is a freshman and was sponsored by Circle K.
Miss Sanders is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Sanders of Texarkana, Texas, and is a sophomore. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Samothrace and the English Club.
The Bob Snyder Trio entertained at the pageant with folk songs and other selections.
Other participants in the contest were Jo Anne Bell, Evelyn Burnett, Sharon Ector, Debbie Flowers, Peggy Fouke, Mary Lou Herrera, Bonnie Jamison, Patricia Kelly, Kay Longino, Sue McGraw, Carolyn McMicheal, Becky Nolen, Sharon Owens, Elizabeth Ann Sharp, Jennifer Smith, Linda Tatom, Betty Thompson, and Bridget Wright.
Students cast 523 ballots and only 25 votes separated the top five girls. Twelve received more than 100 votes and none of the girls were named on even half the ballots.
Counting the ballots were members of the KENNEL and BULLDOG staffs and sponsor.
