Of the many duties of the counseling office, a recent one has been to find a Santa Claus. The department is now finding jobs for students who want employment during the holidays.
A Dec. 11 postage stamp will honor Mississippi’s 50th year as a state. The new five-cent stamp will be issued at Natchez, the first capital of the territory.

Late in October several instructors attended modern languages conferences. Miss Gardner and Mrs. Fomby attended the Texas Foreign Language Association sessions in Houston, while Mr. Jackson and Mr. Solganick went to Baton Rouge for the Modern Language Association conference.

A memorable occasion was the performance of Handel’s “Messiah” by the city community chorus, directed by Mr. Murry Alewine of the Fine Arts Department. Several — students were in the chorus.
1965 alumnus Mike Mullins has been accepted at the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston. Recent M.D. graduates of the University of Arkansas are Larry Leavelle and Arlis Loe. And Rosemary Lairamore, a Baylor Med School graduate, is interning in St. Louis.
Last Friday’s performance of “The Nutcracker Ballet” at the Auditorium included from Texarkana College, freshmen Bonnie Cate and Barbara Rothrock. The Tchaikovsky extravaganza was sponsored by the Junior League and dance instructors Dixie Splawn and Judith McCarty. Bonnie reports they worked “all year” getting the show ready for the Christmas season.
Offices around the campus took on a festive air last week with Christmas trees, gold and red data-processed wreaths, holly, mistletoe and candles. Christmas music, taped and re-corded, could be heard throughout the halls. A season’s greeting from the Data Processing Center showed a Santa, sled and eight reindeer—all in computer language.
No pre-registration will be held for the second semester, according to Mr. K. B. Davis, Registrar. Students will register in alphabetical order, sophomores on Jan. 23 and freshmen on Jan. 24.
Second semester will likely herald a ten percent drop in enrollment figures, Mr. Davis predicts. Dropouts and transfers will account for the loss.
Mrs. Rose Roberts, a 1966 Business Degree graduate of Texarkana College, is Dean McAlexander’s new secretary. His former secretary, Mrs. Martha Dean, resigned Nov. 17 to work for a local attorney’s firm.
Students in Mr. Joe Burgess’s classes gave him “a hard time” recently on that arm sling he’s been sporting. Would you believe . . . a game of backyard football resulted in a dislocated shoulder for the biology instructor.
