The Four Freshmen, a popular singing quartet, will appear at the Texarkana College Auditorium December 5, at 8 p.m. This will be the second performance of the Auditorium Series.
In 1948, calling themselves “The Tappers”, The Four Freshmen organized a singing quartet at the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music in Indianapolis. After changing to the name that was to bring them success, they managed to fall short of setting the world on fire. During their first two years, the group was making lots of records, but very little money.
The group’s big break finally came! Stan Kenton, a pioneer in the field of modern music, just happened to hear them in Dayton, Ohio. Kenton was so impressed that he convinced Capitol Records to sign the Freshmen to a contract. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
The Freshmen have been honored time and time again by Downbeat, Playboy, Billboard, and many other leading publications, as the Nation’s “Best Vocal Group.”
“Musicianship” is the real key to the Four Freshmen’s success. They sing, with comparative ease, complex and difficult arrangements that the average vocal group would never even attempt.
The group is always in search for new challenges, new harmonic worlds to conquer. That’s the attitude that keeps the fabulous Four Freshmen appealing to millions of discriminating music fans everywhere.
All seats will be reserved. Tickets may be purchased at the Music Building before the performance or at the door. The cost will be $2.50, $2.00, or $1.50.
