Two College Clubs Gladden Children

Members of Alpha Beta Nu, the Texas Junior College Agricultural Association, and three small children from a family in the community were entertained at a Christmas party Thursday, December 13. The party was held in the Homemaking Department, which was beautifully decorated in the traditional Christmas manner. The center of attention was the Christmas tree, decorated with original ornaments designed and constructed by the design class.

The program consisted of two readings—the story of the first Christmas according to St. Luke and St. Matthew by Ernest Hill, and “The Night Before Christmas” by John Wade. The group then sang Christmas carols, while the children opened gifts given them by the two clubs.

Fruit cake, cookies, and cranberry punch prepared by the foods class were served from a table decorated in the Christmas motif chosen by the design class.

The foods class would like to share with the reader two favorite holiday recipes that are sure to make the season more enjoyable:

Quick Fruit Cake

  • 1 large can Eagle Brand Milk
  • 1 lb. pitted dates
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 1/2 lb. coconut

Line pan with oil paper. Cook at about 300° F. for about 50 min. Serves about 25 thin slices.

Raw Cranberry Relish
